Travel chat with Digital Strategy Coordinator Anthony Petrella

Anthony Petrella (middle, blue shirt) - Cendyn Digital Strategy Coordinator

How long have you been traveling?
My first plane ride was to Massachusetts when I was six months old.

What do you do to avoid getting sick?
My go to is Airborne tablets right before the flight. Eating food with a lot of garlic in it the night before has never failed me either.

What is the best way to change currency?
I’ve never had to change currency. All the places I’ve been even out of the country take US Dollars.

Aisle or window?
Aisle seat. I definitely like having the extra arm and leg room.

Tips on how to take a nap on a plane?
Noise-cancelling headphones.

What’s your favorite airline and hotel?
Favorite airline has to be JetBlue. Favorite hotel by far is Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.

Best way to overcome jetlag?
Luckily, I’ve never experienced jetlag. I’d assume alcohol would be the first thing I’d try to get over it though. I’ll get back to this question after I try it out and let you know how it goes.

What is your favorite/worst thing about traveling?
My favorite things about traveling are the new experiences you get to share with the people you go with. Being able to come back from every trip with new stories to tell and memories to last a lifetime makes every trip worth it. As far as the worst thing about traveling, that would have to be the plane flight back because that’s when reality sets in that the trip is over. Nothing to do after that besides count down the days until the next one.

What is your longest trip to date?
When I was 14, I spent over a month in Boston with all my family members that still live up there. Unfortunately, I don’t see myself having the availability to take another month off anytime soon.

The saying goes ‘you don’t really know someone till you’ve traveled together.’ What’s your take?
I don’t think I would travel with someone who I didn’t know very well. The reason why I’d travel with anyone in the first place is because I already have a close relationship with them.

Do you have a travel horror story?
My last semester in college I saved for 6 months to afford a trip to Las Vegas with my closest friends. I was there for three days and although I didn’t gamble a single dollar, I got on the plane ride home with $18 left to my name. Needless to say, I learned a valuable lesson about saving and spending money.

Favorite destination and why?
My favorite places to consistently travel are more remote spots in North Carolina and Tennessee. I have just as much fun renting a place with friends up in the mountains as I would in Vegas, and for a fraction of the price.
