How long have you been traveling?

My first international trip was in 2003 as part of a semester abroad in college.

What do you do to avoid getting sick?

Nothing in particular for specific trips, aside from not drinking tap water. Generally, I’ve found that if you stay active and eat healthy as part of your daily routine, sickness tends to stay away.

What is the best way to change currency?

Get a credit card with no foreign transaction fees.

Aisle or window?

Window. Pretty hard to get likes on Instagram with aisle photos unless cops are dragging someone off your flight.

Tips on how to take a nap on a plane?

I’m looking for some. I can’t do it.

What’s your favorite airline and hotel?

I fly Delta out of blind loyalty to the city of Atlanta. I stay in Hiltons because of points.

Best way to overcome jetlag?

Stay up all night before your flight. Power through the next day at your destination and then crash.

What is your favorite/worst thing about traveling?

Favorite: new cultural experiences and learning opportunities. Worst: feeling lost/out of place.

What is your longest trip to date?

Two months in South America (Argentina and Brazil)

Do you believe you don’t know someone until you’ve traveled with them?

I think you can know someone without travelling with them, but the experience of travelling with someone accelerates/focuses the process of getting to know them.

Do you have a travel horror story?

Business day trip to New York in April that ended up in three cancelled flights and an 8-hour car ride home in the middle of the night with 4 other stranded strangers.

Favorite destination and why?

Malaysia for the food. Rio for the views.
